| Zusammenfassung: | The objective of this work is analyze the process followed by the intensive groundwater use by agribusinesses in Tula, Tamaulipas, which in the form of protected agriculture and plantations with technical irrigation promoted by the government with development objectives for communities with high marginalization, have been installed as in other parts of the central highlands of Mexico, a semi-arid region, which could condition access to water for human consumption and compromise water security for the population. The work is based on a bibliographic review, field visits, interviews with local informants, application of questionnaires and online press review. It is concluded that the agribusiness model based on protected agriculture and plantations with technical irrigation, although highly efficient in the water use, when extractions intensify, it induces scarcity and puts access to water at risk for the population in their basic needs, while in its extractivist nature it displaces and subordinates the original owners of agrarian and water rights. |
