Ruíz-Cancino, Enrique Coronado-Blanco, Juana María This book represents a monographic review of Microterys nietneri (Motschulsky, 1859) (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Encyrtidae), an important parasitoid of the soft brown scale Coccus hesperidum Linnaeus (Homoptera: Coccoidea: Coccidae) on citrus and some other cultivated plants. The species was described from the mountains of Sri Lanka. Its home region is postulated to be South-East Asia. M. nietneri penetrated by ecesis (with its hosts) to many subtropical and some tropical regions of the world including México, and has been purposely introduced into Australia and New Zealand. The book is based on large materials from different museums of the world and on own materials and observations, contains general information on M. nietneri as well as data on its geographic distribution and probable ways of ecesis, specialization of parasitism, supposed caces, pre-imaginal stages, and on particularities of the biology and practical use of this benefical insect in various regions and countries, including its application in greenhouses and in integrated pest management. The cited literature includes 170 sources. Este libro representa una revisión monográfica de Microterys nietneri (Motschulsky, 1859) (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Encyrtidae), un parasitoide importante de la escama suave café Coccus hesperidum Linnaeus (Homoptera: Coccoidea: Coccidae) sobre cítricos y algunas otras plantas cultivadas. La especie fué descrita de las montañas de Sri Lanka. Se postula que su patria puede ser el suroeste asiático. M nietneri ha penetrado por ecesis (con sus hospederos) a muchas regiones subtropicales y en algunas tropicales del mundo, también a México, y fue introducido intencionalmente a Australia y Nueva Zelanda. El libro se basa en grandes materiales de diferentes museos del mundo y en materiales y observaciones propias, contiene información general concerniente a M. nietneri, así como datos de su distribución geográfica, probables vías de ecesis, especialidad del parasitismo, supuestas razas, estadíos inmaduros, particularidades de su biología y el uso práctico de este insecto benéfico en varias regiones y países, incluyendo su aplicación en invernaderos y en el manejo integrado de plagas. La literatura incluye 170 citas. Libros UAT Libros UAT 2018-12-10 Libro Digital (DA) https://libros.uat.edu.mx/index.php/librosuat/catalog/book/78 978-607-95033-4-5 Libros UAT; Libros UAT;
