A century of policies to criminalize illegal immigration and allow the employment of undocumented labor have generated an extremely irregular agricultural labor market. More than half of the workers employed in American agriculture are undocumented and made use of fraudulent documentation to obtain their employment. Desde finales del siglo XIX, los empresarios agrarios estadounidenses han buscado incrementar la rentabilidad de sus explotaciones a través del empleo de mano de obra foránea, disciplinada y no sindicalizada. Un siglo de políticas de criminalización de la inmigración ilegal y permisión del empleo de mano de obra indocumentada han generado un mercado laboral agrario extremadamente irregular. Más de la mitad de los trabajadores empleados en la agricultura estadounidense son indocumentados e hicieron uso de documentación fraudulenta para obtener su empleo.
