The publication of the articles by Gregor Mendel in 1866 is one of the most important events in the history of genetics; however, these documents were ignored until 1900 when they were found and published by three biologists (Hugo de Vries in Holland, Carl Correns in Germany and Erick Von Tschermack in Austria) who gave credit to Gregor Mendel, who was named The Father of Genetics. . These facts and those that preceded it set the tone for the science of Biology to have great advances in the area of ??Genetics. From 1900, the discovery of the structure of DNA and the new technologies of multiplication of genetic material, marked a new era where biotechnological tools play a very important role. Currently biotechnology has advanced considerably, the basic knowledge of the laws of inheritance and variation are fundamental to understand the mechanisms of transmission of genes and their manipulation. They are the tools that every student in the agricultural area must know to understand the biology of protein synthesis and its role in the productive behavior of plants and animals. This book is the result of a compilation of basic educational material whose main foundation is to teach the undergraduate student the physical and chemical basis of the inheritance. For reading this book requires that the reader has the basic knowledge about biology and chemistry that allows the teaching-learning process of the topics contained in the work. La Genética es la ciencia que estudia las letes de la herencia y variación en plantas y animales. La publicación d elos artículos de Gregor Mendel en 1866 es uno de los eventos más importantes en la hitoria de la genética; sin embargo, estos documentos fueron ignorados hasta 1900 cuando fueron encontrados y publicados por tres biólogos (Hugo de Vries en Holanda, Carl Correns en Alemania y Erick Von Tschermack en Austria) quienes dieron crédito a Gregor Mendel el cual fue nombrado El Padre de la Genética. Estos hechos y los que lo precedieron dieron la pauta para que la ciencia de la Biología tuviera grandes avances en el área de la Genética. A partir de 1900, el descubrimiento de la estructura del ADN y las nuevas tecnologías de multiplicación del material genético, marcaron una nueva era donde las herramientas biotecnológicas cumplen un papel muy importante. En la actualidad la biotecnología ha avanzado considerablemente, el conocimiento básico de las leyes de la herencia y la variación son fundamentales para entender los mecanismos de transmisión de los genes y su manipulación. Son las herramientas que todo estudiante del área agropecuaria debe de conocer para entender la biología de la síntesis de proteínas y su papel en el comportamiento productivo de plantas y animales. El presente libro es el resultado de una compilación de material educativo básico que tiene como fundamento principal el enseñar al estudiante de licenciatura las bases físicas y químicas de la herencia. Para la lectura este libro se requiere que el lector cuente con los conocimientos elementales sobre biología y química que le permita el proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje de los temas contenidos en la obra.
