With this purpose, a historical review of each movement is made, to later identify confluences and differences between them. Among the most significant findings, it should be noted that in both cases, Mexican society faced the consequences of the deficient administration of the public, the lack of spaces for public reflection, as well as governmental authoritarianism. En el artículo se analizan dos movimientos estudiantiles que tuvieron verificativo durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX en México, con el objetivo de identificar algunos factores estructurales que determinaron el surgimiento de ambos, así como la contribución de estos a los movimientos estudiantiles que les sucedieron en el siglo XXI. Con ese propósito se hace una revisión histórica de cada movimiento, para después identificar confluencias y diferencias entre ellos. Entre los hallazgos más significativos, cabe destacar que en los dos casos, la sociedad mexicana enfrentaba las consecuencias de la deficiente administración de lo público, de la ausencia de espacios para la reflexión pública, así como del autoritarismo gubernamental.
