Gaia:So far, empirical research on the formation of superstars has focused on demonstrating the phenomenon by one of its two positions: talent or popularity. The goal of this paper is to analyze the phenomenon of superstars through these two paths. To do this, we estimated a multiple regression model using data from 221 players in the first division Mexican Soccer League, seasons 2009-2010. Our results demonstrate that both the talent and popularity are needed to become a superstar. However, talent alone is a necessary condition to aspire to star. To be a Superstar talent is not enough, it should also be popular.
