The mutation was found at codon 634 of exon 11 in positive patient, but not was found in the 9 relatives and in the negative. This concludes that if there is a close relationship between the molecular diagnosis and clinical diagnosis, as family members and the negative don´t present symptomatology of this disease, while positive patient clinically and pathologically diagnosed if present the mutation at codon 634. En este trabajo se presentan los materiales y la metodología utilizada para la búsqueda de la mutación del codón 634 del exón 11 del protooncogén RET del cromosoma 10 en 11 personas, de las cuales 9 son familiares directos de un paciente ya diagnosticado clínica y patológicamente con cáncer medular de tiroides, siendo este el único caso reportado en el estado de Tamaulipas. Se encontró la mutación del codón 634 del exón 11 en el paciente positivo y no se encontró en los 9 familiares, ni en el negativo. Con esto se concluye que sí existe una relación muy estrecha entre el diagnóstico molecular y el diagnóstico clínico, ya que ni los familiares ni el negativo presentan sintomatología de este padecimiento, mientras que el paciente positivo, ya diagnosticado clínica y patológicamente, sí presentó la mutación en el codón 634.
