Achoimre:Several crisis affecting the planet such as pollution and general deterioration of the earth resources are forcing mankind to rethink the actual development model. If this picture is added to population growth, consumption and urbanization in the next decades, the planet’s resources will not be enough to meet the future needs of global population. Therefore, a change is needed in the way of living and inhabiting the planet, and one of the main transformers in humankind is education. Educational Institutions are essential as active forces of change affecting human and natural wellbeing. Different sustainability concepts and the indicators of the three most popular sustainability integration and evaluation systems for Higher Education Institutions (HEI) worldwide were analyzed in this paper. HEI sustainability evaluation systems serve to evaluate the institution’s efforts to achieve their sustainability goals; however, the best system is always the one that is developed by each institution with its own indicators according to their objectives and policies.
