To do this, between 2008 and 2010, there has been a communication audit that included communication performance analysis and operation of the central delegation of the SRE in Mexico City, its website (http://www.sre. gob.mx /) and brochures for distribution (in this specifi c case of Mexican migrant Guide, published and disseminated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2004), in order to meet the projected image of the institution to its public. Additionally, among numerous other factors, the investigation established to study a specific audience segment: the Mexican migrant population to the United States of America, in order to determine what degree of influence, if any, that institution has in this population segment through promoting or encouraging migration. Este artículo tiene por objeto dar a conocer una parte de los resultados de una investigación mayor que se ha abocado enteramente al estudio de la comunicación externa de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE). Para ello, entre los años 2008 y 2010, se ha realizado una auditoría de comunicación que abarcó el análisis comunicativo del funcionamiento y operatividad de la delegación central de la SRE en México, DF, de su página web (http://www.sre.gob.mx/) y folletos informativos de difusión (en este caso específico la Guía del migrante mexicano, publicada y difundida por la SRE en 2004), a fin de conocer la imagen proyectada por la institución a su público. Adicionalmente, entre otros numerosos factores, en la investigación se consideró estudiar un segmento de público específico: la población migrante mexicana hacia los Estados Unidos de América, con el objeto de determinar qué grado de influencia, si lo hubiere, posee la referida institución sobre este segmento poblacional, promoviendo o alentando la migración.
