The objective of this study was to evaluate the factors that influence the formation and modification of attitudes towards sexism, the level of sexism and new masculinities in higher education students. Methodologically, a descriptive statistical analysis was carried out on the responses of the Sexism Behavior Scale and the Perception of Positive Attitudes of Masculinities for Complex Environments. The informants were mostly local (78.5%); 71.5% from traditional families (mother, father and children); the father is the main provider (59.8%); 48.2% of mothers do housework. Regarding age, a third of the parents are between 46 and 50 years old; In terms of education, 36.1% of fathers and 39.9% of mothers have completed a bachelor’s degree. The main findings were that sexist attitudes are present in students of any sex. Higher averages of sexist behavior were obtained in women than in men. There were significant differences between men and women. Women also had a greater perception of the new masculinities. These results are valuable for new research in educational, social and gender planning. La violencia de género es un problema extenso en el país que requiere mayor comprensión. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los factores que influyen en la formación y modificación de actitudes hacia el machismo, el nivel de machismo y las nuevas masculinidades en estudiantes de educación superior. Metodológicamente se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo a las respuestas de la Escala de Comportamiento Machista y la Percepción de Actitudes Positivas de Masculinidades para Ambientes Complejos. Los informantes fueron en su mayoría locales (78,5%); 71,5% de familias tradicionales (madre, padre e hijos); el padre es el principal proveedor (59,8%); 48,2% de las madres realizan las labores domésticas. Respecto a la edad una tercera parte de los padres tienen entre 46 y 50 años; en escolaridad, 36,1% de padres y 39,9% de madres tienen licenciatura terminada. Los hallazgos principales fueron que las actitudes machistas están presentes en estudiantes de cualquier sexo. En las mujeres se obtuvieron promedios más altos de comportamientos machistas que en los hombres. Entre hombres y mujeres hubo diferencias significativas. Las mujeres también tuvieron una percepción mayor de las nuevas masculinidades. Estos resultados son valiosos para nuevas investigaciones en planeación educativa, social y de género.
