Tamaulipas fish production is over 52 thousand tonnes annual average, with a value of more than 930 million pesos (73.7 million), where the participation of the resource stands shrimp (Farfantepenaeus aztecus) in volume (14.460 tons) and value [(584 million pesos) (46.3 million)], with 28% and 63% respectively.Tamaulipas, in 2007, ranked eighth in volume and fourth in value of national fisheries production. By industry, Tamaulipas takes top national commercial fishing: first mullet (Mugil cephalus), third in shrimp, fourth in blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) and fifth in sierra (Scomberomorus maculatus). Shrimp fishing in Tamaulipas state has placed in the third place nationally in terms of volume and value of fisheries production. Similarly, Tamaulipas is positioned in third place in the number of larger vessels (258) engaged in the shrimp catch at sea (equivalent to 12.15% of the national fleet fishing in the catch of shrimp) and first place in the same row but in comparison with the states of the Gulf of Mexico. Dentro del sector agricultura, ganadería, aprovechamiento forestal, pesca y caza del Producto Interno Bruto del estado de Tamaulipas, el subsector pesca aporta el 8.86%. La producción pesquera de Tamaulipas es de más de 52 mil toneladas promedio anual, con un valor superior a los 930 millones de pesos (73.7 millones de dólares), en donde sobresale la participación del recurso camarón (Farfantepenaeus aztecus) en volumen (14,460 toneladas) y en valor [(584 millones de pesos) (46.3 millones de dólares)], con un 28% y un 63% respectivamente. Tamaulipas, durante el año 2007, ocupó el octavo lugar en volumen y el cuarto lugar en valor de la producción pesquera nacional. Por especie, Tamaulipas ocupa primeros lugares nacionales en la pesca comercial: primero en lisa (Mugil cephalus), tercero en camarón, cuarto en jaiba (Callinectes sapidus) y quinto en sierra (Scomberomorus maculatus). La pesca de camarón en Tamaulipas ha permitido ubicar al estado en el tercer lugar nacional en cuanto volumen y valor de la producción pesquera. De igual forma, Tamaulipas se posiciona en el tercer lugar en el número de embarcaciones mayores (258) dedicadas a la captura de camarón en alta mar (equivalente al 12.15% de la flota nacional), y el primer lugar en el mismo renglón pero en comparación con los estados del Golfo de México.
