Achoimre:Within the agriculture sector, livestock, forestry, fishing and hunting of gross domestic product of the state of Tamaulipas, the fisheries subsector contributes 8.86%. Tamaulipas fish production is over 52 thousand tonnes annual average, with a value of more than 930 million pesos (73.7 million), where the participation of the resource stands shrimp (Farfantepenaeus aztecus) in volume (14.460 tons) and value [(584 million pesos) (46.3 million)], with 28% and 63% respectively.Tamaulipas, in 2007, ranked eighth in volume and fourth in value of national fisheries production. By industry, Tamaulipas takes top national commercial fishing: first mullet (Mugil cephalus), third in shrimp, fourth in blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) and fifth in sierra (Scomberomorus maculatus). Shrimp fishing in Tamaulipas state has placed in the third place nationally in terms of volume and value of fisheries production. Similarly, Tamaulipas is positioned in third place in the number of larger vessels (258) engaged in the shrimp catch at sea (equivalent to 12.15% of the national fleet fishing in the catch of shrimp) and first place in the same row but in comparison with the states of the Gulf of Mexico.
