The design of the case study strategy was developed considering the situated teaching approach, which is based on contributions from cultural psychology of learning. The results demonstrate that the students were able to apply the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to analyze, reflect upon, and propose improvements in reviewing a case of diagnosis in early childhood education involving various situations, factors, and practices of those involved. The teacher's reflections during the development of the case study are presented, and the conclusions highlight the main contributions for improving the teaching and learning of the content addressed. El objetivo del presente trabajo consistió en presentar la experiencia en el diseño y aplicación del método de estudio de caso como estrategia didáctica para que las alumnas de la Licenciatura en Atención al Desarrollo y Bienestar de la Infancia aprendieran el contenido de diagnóstico para la intervención profesional en situaciones de atención a la niñez. El diseño de la estrategia de estudio de caso se elaboró considerando el enfoque de la enseñanza situada, el cual se sustenta en los aportes de la psicología cultural del aprendizaje. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran que las alumnas lograron aplicar los conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes necesarias para analizar, reflexionar y platear propuestas de mejora en la revisión de un caso de un diagnóstico en educación infantil que incluye diferentes situaciones, factores y prácticas de los involucrados. Se presentan las reflexiones del profesor durante el desarrollo del estudio de caso y en las conclusiones se destacan las principales aportaciones para la mejora de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del contenido abordado.
