This paper evaluates the effectiveness of an educational intervention in schoolchildren 8-13 years of age of four primary-level public schools in preventing HIV / STI, held in Tampico, Tamaulipas, from 2005 to 2009. It was carried out a study quasi-experimental, forming two groups: an intervention and a control, were monitored to students of the 4th. degree and continued research at the 5th. and 6th. grade. Educational participation was made by the same pre-school teachers trained. Educationalmaterials were developed for them previously validated. Results were measured during the three years of intervention. At the end of the third year of research the intervention group showed better levels of knowledge and attitudes in life skills that allow you to prevent HIV / STDs than the control group, these differences were statistically significant (T test and Chi 2 p En este trabajo se evalúa la efectividad de una intervención educativa en escolares de 8 a 13 años de edad de cuatro escuelas públicas de nivel primaria en prevención de VIH/ETS, realizado en Tampico, Tamaulipas, del 2005 al 2009. Para ello se llevó a cabo un estudio cuasi experimental, constituyendo dos grupos: uno de intervención y otro de control; se monitoreó a estudiantes del 4to.grado y se continuó la investigación durante el 5to. y 6to. grado. La participación educativa fue realizada por los mismos docentes de las escuelas previamente capacitados. Se elaboró material educativo para ellos, previamente validado. Se midieron resultados durante los tres años de intervención. Al término del tercer año de investigación el grupo intervenido presentó mejores niveles de conocimiento y actitudes en habilidades para la vida que le permiten prevenir VIH/ETS, que el grupo control, siendo estas diferencias estadísticamente significativas (Prueba T y CHI 2 p<0,05) en: conocimiento de reglas personales, consecuencias de tener sexo, como decir un claro NO para proteger sus reglas y conocimiento del VIH. El material educativo aplicado para desarrollar habilidades en la prevención de ITS/VIH es efectivo en escolares de 8 a 13 años de edad.
