Sumario:For successful learning, teachers must be aware of their student´s habits and attitudes towards study. The aim of this research is to identify the study habits and attitudes of 228 first-grade students in secondary education using the Brown’s and Holtzman’s Survey of Habits and Attitudes. The results indicate that twenty-nine percent of students have low or ineffective study skills. They struggle with reading texts, note-taking, writing reports, and test preparation. This represents an important challenge for teachers and students to overcome school failure and low academic performance.
